"Platform Identity Management Netherlands is invited to participate in a new project at the OASIS open standards consortium to address the serious security and interoperability challenges involved in authenticating electronic identity credentials.
The OASIS Trust Elevation Technical Committee will define a set of standardized protocols that service providers may use to elevate the trust in an electronic identity credential presented to them for authentication. The work will reconcile the fundamental gap between credential-based trust approaches (used in e-gov) and transaction risk mitigation-based trust approaches (used in B2B).
The Committee's ultimate goal is to extend interoperability among service providers and make e-transactions easier and friendlier for end users. The group was formed specifically to respond to suggestions from the public sector, including the U.S. National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace (NSTIC).
Bank of America, BiTKOO, CA, Identity Commons, Intel, Open Identity Exchange (OIX), RedHat, SafeNet, U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH), U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), U.S. Veterans Health Administration, Yaana Technology, and others are already committed to advancing the Trust Elevation work. Additional companies, government agencies, and standards organizations are expected to join before the Committee's first meeting (a teleconference) on 5 Sept. We would welcome Platform Identity Management Netherlands in this group.
